Nihon e ikimashita!

It's been quite some time since I have posted. Don't think I don't have excuses ready though. Excuse no.1 - family holiday to Japan! Our first overseas trip as a happy little family of 3.

I can 100% recommend our hotel in Osaka - Swissotel Nankai. It was literally right at a major train station, in an area with fantastic shopping, eating, etc. It is also worth going for a drink or meal in the restaurant on the top floor, just for the sparkling 180 degree view.

The aquarium was also worth a visit. They were very much into the Christmas spirit - Santa even went diving with the sharks and sting rays.

These crabs fascinated me - they were so huge and creepy.

My husband, meanwhile, got really into taking artistic shots of the jellyfish.

Bub was a bit tired and loved being fussed over by the owner of a local restaurant.

I wish Australian public toilets had these baby seats - so convenient.

Nara was a favourite spot, particularly Todaiji.

We travelled between cities via Shinkansen, and couldn't resist the cute snacks.

These artworks at the Hiroshima Peace Park were made from tiny origami cranes!

All of the sightseeing really wore her out.

Tokyo is a crazy place: a truck advertisement for a robot restaurant, we couldn't get the song out of our head for the rest of the trip; a karaoke bar; the largest and most expensive apples I have ever seen; plastic food lined the windows of most restaurants... I'm hoping this was an all-you-can-eat buffet?!

The Ghibli Museum was another highlight, so adorable and such attention to detail.

My husband's idea of heaven.

There is always music amongst the trees and in the garden. But our hearts must be very quiet to hear it.

  3. Looks like you had an amazing time! I've stayed at Swissotel in Sydney and it's pretty nice there, I'll definitely have to keep it in mind for when I finally make it to Japan. The Ghibli museum must have been really cool, did you get photo's inside? One of my fave movies is Spirited Away, I love how it's just magic on screen.

I know this sounds really random, but I was thinking about you the other day, and how from what it would seem on your blog, having a baby hasn't completely meant an overhaul of the way you dress, something I commend you on! I was just thinking since we were talking about babies, and then I went on this mind track of babies and how the girls I know who are mothers tend to dress SUPER casual, yet you still have your silky pieces! Haha anyway I just had to say ;)

As for your comment about my sandals, by the time I got home they were completely ruined, and while I had found a replacement, the neon pink was well.. too neon for my tastes, so I am once again without flat sandals. Knowing my luck I probably won't end up with any new ones until the middle of the year.

Anyway, hope you had a wonderful Christmas and have an even happier NYE! xx

    1. Spirited Away is my favourite too, but the most popular in Japan at the moment is Totoro. Unfortunately there were no photos allowed inside the museum, but it was so adorable, with as much attention to detail as the movies.

I have somewhat changed the way I dress, and I do aim for more cotton pieces, particularly when looking at new purchases. I find printed silk is better than plain as it doesn't show up marks. I wear my Karen Walker silk boat pants quite a bit, and printed skirts with cotton tanks. I definitely don't wear dresses as much because I need easy access for feeding. For Christmas Day I wore my Lover white magik dress as that style is fine for feeding. For New Year I went to a friend's place so it was fairly casual. I wore Lover white denim shorts with a Sretsis silk/cotton button up blouse (same print as your skirt). I should start doing some outfit posts to show it is still possible to dress nicely with a baby.

Shame about the sandals. I am going to get a pair of Ancient Greek Sandals, they have so many nice styles so I want to try them out and see if they are comfy. Not good for the beach though as you are not supposed to get them wet :(

Christmas and New Year were lovely! Hope yours was too - want to see a picture of you in that Lover dress, I've always wanted to buy it but not so practical for now so will wait until I see it for the right price ;)
