Well, my dreams of summer may finally be coming to fruition. Hard to believe, in the wake of the floods, but there have now been a few days of sunshine. Today was forecast for rain, but looking outside now it's all blue skies. Even more cheering than the weather has been the little gestures made by the people of Brisbane. On the news this morning, there were people who have been baking and delivering goodies to volunteers and emergency service workers. Yesterday, while helping out at a relative's place along the river, we had several people drive by and ask if there was anything they could do to help. One couple had a trailer loaded up with ice to deliver to houses that were without power. It is so heartwarming to see people looking out for each other in this way, and it makes Brisbane seem more like a small town than a cold city.
It's funny, I often think of my childhood and wonder at how safe it was to roam the streets, and how neighbours would invite each other over or stop for a chat. Now, I hardly see my neighbours and when I do, we generally avoid eye contact and definitely don't engage in idle chit chat. I don't even know most of their names, some not even their faces. We are all so busy with work and our own lives, who even knows what really? The floods brought the city to a standstill. Most people couldn't go to work, and everything else felt too insignificant. It's amazing how this little pause in our lives can bring things into perspective.
I have posted about Karen Walker's Perfect Day collection before, when it showed at New York Fashion Week. Now it is soon to be released and the Southern Hemisphere pics have been posted on the website. The feel of the collection is similar to the feel of my city right now, a juxtaposition of vibrancy and calm, naivety and maturity. Hopefully by the time the collection drops, we will be closer to being back on our feet.
Here are some of my top picks:
It would go perfectly with another blouse in the above print. I love these yellow pants too, but could I pull them off?

Those yellow pants are amazing. I love an unusual pop of colour like that. Then you can always pair the pop of colour back with a neutral (grey/black/cream etc) so it's not too in your face. Or you could pair it with a pattern to make the whole outfit special and different. The whole collection is quite gorgeous, great tailoring too.
ReplyDeleteWow I am in love with every piece, but am supposed to be saving...argh!
ReplyDeleteThe bird print tee and the coat are just adorable!
ReplyDeleteI think you could pull off the yellow pants beautifully! I think just keeping the rest of your outfit monochromatic and simple would make them stand out, but not in a crazy way x
Ah love the coat! I fancy the bird print tee too but agree the print pants would be hard to pull off (not impossible though!) x Sushi
ReplyDeleteThe bird-print top and tee are gorgeous!

The first blouse is actually a cherub print I think (or at least that's what I was told, its on Maximilia.. $390?!) - my weakness for this collection is the gorgeous prints (fyi the runaway collection is online if you haven't spotted it yet - and just read your PM this morning, will reply tonight!)
ReplyDeleteI love the pants, but as you say, worried they may look like pajamas. I'm gonna try on a couple pairs when they go in store but probs won't buy any.
And, it's so lovely to hear that many people in QLD are stopping to help those in distress and in need. It's hard to believe that a new wave of destruction has hit VIC.I'm just hoping no more lives are lost, it's all so sad
